The High Court of Jharkhand, Ranchi has invited applications for engagement of 25 Law Researchers/Research Associates through Advertisement No. 01/Recruitment Cell/2026. The engagement is contractual and carries consolidated remuneration of ₹40,000 per month. Applications in the prescribed format may be emailed from 7 September to 28 September 2026.

The initial term is one year. It may be extended once for another year, making two years the maximum engagement period. The appointment does not create a right to permanent employment under the High Court or State Government, and the selected person will not be treated as a regular employee.

Vacancies and remuneration

There are 25 Law Researcher/Research Associate positions. Each selected candidate will receive a consolidated honorarium or stipend of ₹40,000 per month, or a higher amount if prescribed by the State Government in future. No other allowance or additional remuneration is admissible under the advertisement.

Age limit

An applicant must be at least 21 years old and not more than 28 years old on the date of advertisement, 5 September 2026. Candidates should calculate age using this precise date and ensure that the date of birth in the application exactly matches the Matriculation or Class 10 certificate.

Educational qualification

A fresh Law Graduate or Law Postgraduate from a university or college recognised by the Bar Council of India may apply. Students studying in the fifth year of a five-year Law course or the final year of a three-year Law course are also eligible, but their final selection is subject to passing the final LL.B examination before engagement.

The candidate must have passed all examinations in the first attempt and secured at least 60 percent aggregate marks. A person pursuing a postgraduate degree in Law or another degree or programme requiring compulsory attendance is not eligible for this engagement. Familiarity with computers will receive preference during selection.

Recommendation requirement

The candidature of a practising lawyer must be recommended by a designated Senior Advocate. If the applicant is not a practising lawyer, the recommendation must come from the Head of the last Law School, College or University attended. This recommendation is a required enclosure and should not be replaced with a generic character certificate.

Application procedure

Candidates must download and complete the prescribed application form. The completed form and scanned enclosures must be combined into a single PDF file not exceeding 10 MB and emailed to rgjhc.jhr@gmail.com between 7 September and 28 September 2026. Applicants should verify the address from the official notification before sending and retain the sent-email record.

No hard-copy printout is required to be sent to the High Court. The candidate should nevertheless retain a printed or electronic copy of the completed application and supporting documents for document verification and interview.

Required documents

Applicants should include the Matriculation certificate as proof of date of birth; marksheets for every semester or year of Law graduation and Law postgraduation where applicable; provisional or original Law degree certificate where available; the required recommendation from the designated Senior Advocate or Head of Institution; and a computer certificate, if any.

The photograph and signature must be clear. An application containing an illegible or blurred photograph or signature may be rejected. Name, father’s name and date of birth must be written exactly as shown in the Class 10 certificate. Requests for correction after the closing date will not be entertained.

Selection process

Selection will be based on merit and interview. Names of shortlisted candidates, interview schedule and venue will be announced on the official Jharkhand High Court website. Shortlisted applicants may also receive individual information through the email address supplied in the form. No travelling or daily allowance will be paid for attending the interview.

Original documents will be checked during document verification or interview. If a claim in the application cannot be substantiated, the candidature may be cancelled. The Selection Committee and High Court decision is final.

Nature of work

A Law Researcher or Research Associate assists an Hon’ble Judge in judicial and administrative work. Duties may include researching governing and recent case law, reading case files, preparing comprehensive case summaries, notes and chronologies, identifying legal questions, researching articles and papers, assisting with preparation and proofreading of judgments, remaining present during hearings and preparing notes of arguments and citations.

The assignment offers exposure to legal research, court procedure and judicial work, but it is not a permanent judicial-service appointment. Candidates should evaluate the bar on legal practice and other employment before accepting the engagement.

Restrictions and confidentiality

During the engagement, the Law Researcher/Research Associate cannot practise as a lawyer or take another full-time or part-time employment or engagement. A researcher attached to a Judge cannot appear before that Judge for one year after termination and cannot appear in a case handled during the attachment.

Strict confidentiality applies to court documents, deliberations, case material and official work. Information obtained during the engagement cannot be disclosed, including after completion, unless legally required in the discharge of lawful duties. Candidates should read the confidentiality provisions carefully.

Accuracy and safety notice

The official advertisement does not state an application fee. Candidates should not pay an agent or follow an unofficial payment link. Canvassing results in rejection. The High Court may postpone, modify or cancel the engagement process.

काम और restrictions

Researcher को case-law search, case file reading, summaries, notes, chronology, legal questions, articles और citations research, judgment preparation/proofreading तथा hearing के दौरान argument notes तैयार करने में सहायता करनी होगी।

Engagement के दौरान legal practice या अन्य full-time/part-time employment नहीं किया जा सकता। Court documents और judicial work की strict confidentiality रखनी होगी। Attached Judge के सामने termination के बाद निर्धारित अवधि तक appearance restrictions भी लागू होंगी।
