Job Description

## Job Description (English)

MP Police Subedar and ASI Recruitment 2026

Madhya Pradesh Employees Selection Board has issued the detailed recruitment rulebook for the Subedar (Ministerial)-Stenographer and Assistant Sub-Inspector (Ministerial) Direct Recruitment Selection Test 2026 under the Police Headquarters, Home (Police) Department, Government of Madhya Pradesh. The recruitment contains 655 vacancies across the General Branch, Special Branch, Field Unit and Crime Investigation Department. Online applications are scheduled to open on 24 September 2026 and close on 8 October 2026.

The correction facility is scheduled from 24 September to 13 October 2026. The first-stage written examination is scheduled to commence on 3 November 2026. Candidates should submit the form early and retain their application number because it is required for downloading the examination admit card.

Post-wise vacancy details

The 655 vacancies comprise 125 Subedar Stenographer posts in the General Branch, 10 Subedar Stenographer posts in the Special Branch, 100 ASI Ministerial posts in the General Branch, 370 ASI Ministerial posts in the Field Unit, 25 ASI Ministerial posts in the Special Branch and 25 ASI Ministerial posts in the Crime Investigation Department. The official tables further divide vacancies by category, women, ex-servicemen and applicable roster provisions.

Reservation benefits require eligible Madhya Pradesh domicile status. Candidates who are not permanent residents of Madhya Pradesh can apply only under the unreserved/open category, subject to all other conditions. Every applicant should study the post code and reservation table before entering preferences.

Educational qualification

The essential academic qualification is generally the 12th or Intermediate examination from a recognised board, accompanied by post-specific skill qualifications. Subedar Stenographer candidates require the prescribed Hindi shorthand qualification and CPCT. For the General Branch stenographer post, the stated shorthand standard includes 100 words per minute. The Special Branch post also requires the relevant shorthand, Hindi typing and CPCT conditions specified in the rulebook.

ASI Ministerial candidates require 12th pass, CPCT and prescribed Hindi typing proficiency. Applicants must ensure that their CPCT scorecard and typing or shorthand certificate meet the required standard and validity conditions. Passing Class 12 alone does not make a candidate eligible for every post.

Age requirement

The minimum age is 18 years. The maximum age changes according to domicile, category, gender, departmental status and the applicable government relaxation. General or EWS male candidates of Madhya Pradesh and candidates belonging to other states are generally subject to an upper limit of 33 years, while women and eligible reserved-category candidates can receive the higher limit or relaxation stated in the rulebook. Applicants should calculate age on the prescribed cut-off date rather than relying on an informal summary.

Fee details

For direct recruitment, the examination fee is ₹500 for unreserved applicants and ₹250 for SC, ST, OBC and EWS applicants who are eligible Madhya Pradesh residents. A separate departmental examination fee of ₹200 for unreserved and ₹100 for eligible reserved-category applicants applies to the relevant departmental route. An MP Online portal charge of ₹60 may apply when the form is submitted through a kiosk; the charge is ₹20 through the registered citizen-user login, as specified in the rulebook.

Salary

The pay scale for Subedar (Ministerial)-Stenographer is ₹36,200 to ₹1,14,800. The pay scale for Assistant Sub-Inspector (Ministerial) is ₹19,500 to ₹62,000. Admissible allowances, deductions, probation provisions and service conditions will operate according to applicable Madhya Pradesh Government and Police Department rules. The pay scale should not be represented as guaranteed monthly take-home pay.

Selection process and examination pattern

The first stage is a computer-based written examination of two hours. It carries 100 objective questions for 100 marks. The notified broad distribution includes 40 marks for general knowledge and logical knowledge, 30 marks for intellectual ability and mental aptitude, and 30 marks for science and simple arithmetic. Available instructions state that there is no deduction for an incorrect response in this stage. Candidates will be shortlisted for the second stage according to the prescribed percentile or cut-off procedure.

The second stage includes verification of original documents and the post-specific practical examination. Stenographer candidates will face the prescribed shorthand test, while ASI Ministerial candidates must satisfy the relevant typing or practical standard. Physical measurement is also part of the process; the reported minimum height is 162 centimetres for men and 152 centimetres for women for the concerned ministerial posts, subject to the complete official conditions. Medical fitness and other character or eligibility checks may follow.

How to apply

  1. Visit the MPESB official website on or after 24 September 2026.
  2. Open the link for the Subedar Stenographer and ASI Ministerial Selection Test 2026.
  3. Download and read the complete rulebook, including the post-code and reservation tables.
  4. Complete the prescribed candidate profile and Aadhaar-related verification.
  5. Select the appropriate post preferences and enter details exactly as recorded in certificates.
  6. Upload the required photograph, signature and documents in the prescribed format.
  7. Pay the correct examination fee and portal charge through an authorised method.
  8. Preview the application carefully and submit it by 8 October 2026.
  9. Use the correction facility only up to 13 October 2026 if an eligible field needs correction.
  10. Save the final application, application number and fee receipt.

Preparation guidance

Begin with the official syllabus and divide preparation into general knowledge and reasoning, mental aptitude, science and basic mathematics. Practise 100-question mock papers within two hours. Improve accuracy even when negative marking is absent because a high number of attempts without understanding can still reduce the final score. Revise Madhya Pradesh-specific general knowledge, basic Indian polity, current events, elementary science, percentages, ratio, averages, time and work, series, analogy and logical reasoning.

Subedar Stenographer applicants should practise Hindi dictation and transcription daily at the prescribed speed. ASI applicants should work on Hindi typing accuracy and CPCT-related skills. Keep Class 10 and 12 certificates, CPCT scorecard, shorthand or typing proof, domicile, category certificate, identity proof and other applicable documents ready for verification.
