Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission has released Advertisement No. 61/9-2026 for recruitment to five Assistant Professor (College Cadre) Anthropology posts in the Department of Higher Education, Himachal Pradesh. Eligibility and Educational Qualification | पात्रता एवं शैक्षणिक योग्यता
A candidate should possess a good academic record with at least 55% marks, or an equivalent grade wherever grading is followed, at the Master’s Degree level in Anthropology or the relevant subject from a recognised Indian University. An equivalent degree from a recognised foreign university may be considered only according to the conditions stated in the official advertisement.
The applicant should also have cleared the National Eligibility Test conducted by UGC or CSIR, or a similar test accredited by the competent authority, such as SLET or SET. Candidates possessing a Ph.D. may be exempted from NET/SLET/SET only when they fulfil every condition prescribed by the applicable UGC regulations and the HPPSC advertisement. A candidate should not assume exemption merely because a Ph.D. degree has been awarded.
अभ्यर्थी के पास Anthropology या संबंधित विषय में मान्यता प्राप्त विश्वविद्यालय से Master’s Degree स्तर पर कम से कम 55 प्रतिशत अंक अथवा समकक्ष grade होना चाहिए। इसके साथ UGC/CSIR NET या मान्य SLET/SET उत्तीर्ण होना आवश्यक है। पात्र Ph.D. अभ्यर्थियों को केवल अधिसूचना और लागू UGC नियमों में दी गई शर्तें पूरी करने पर ही NET/SLET/SET से छूट मिलेगी।
विज्ञापन में निर्धारित श्रेणियों के लिए Master’s marks में उपलब्ध relaxation का लाभ वैध प्रमाणपत्र के आधार पर मिलेगा। उम्मीदवार degree title, subject equivalence, result declaration date तथा qualification completion date को closing date की शर्त से मिलाकर देखें। अंतिम तिथि तक आवश्यक योग्यता पूरी न होने पर आवेदन अस्वीकार हो सकता है।
Age Limit and Relaxation | आयु सीमा एवं छूट
The prescribed age limit is 18 to 45 years, calculated as on 1 January 2026. Relaxation in the upper age limit is available only to candidates covered by the categories and conditions stated in the advertisement and applicable Himachal Pradesh Government instructions. Eligible bonafide Himachal Pradesh SC, ST, OBC, persons with benchmark disabilities, wards of freedom fighters, Ex-Servicemen and specified Government employees should verify the exact relaxation and documentary requirements before claiming it.
आयु की गणना 1 जनवरी 2026 के आधार पर की जाएगी। जन्मतिथि के प्रमाण के लिए matriculation certificate जरूरी है। आरक्षित श्रेणी या अन्य आयु छूट का दावा करते समय संबंधित प्रमाणपत्र निर्धारित तिथि पर वैध होना चाहिए।
Monthly Emoluments and Service Nature | पारिश्रमिक एवं नियुक्ति का स्वरूप
The engagement is advertised as Group-A Job-Trainee with fixed monthly emoluments of ₹35,000. Candidates should understand that fixed job-trainee emoluments are different from quoting a regular pay-matrix salary. Service conditions, tenure, continuation, benefits, duties and any future treatment of the engagement will be governed by the State Government job-trainee scheme referenced in the official advertisement and subsequent Government orders.

Application Fee | आवेदन शुल्क
The examination fee is ₹600 for candidates as prescribed in Advertisement No. 61/9-2026. Payment must be made through an accepted online mode such as debit card, credit card, UPI or another option displayed on the portal. The fee is non-refundable. A deducted amount does not by itself prove successful payment, so candidates should confirm the payment status inside the application dashboard and preserve the receipt.

How to Apply | आवेदन कैसे करें
- Open the official HPPSC website at hppsc.hp.gov.in.
- Select Apply Online and open the One Time Registration System.
- Create an OTR profile if you are a new user, or sign in using existing credentials.
- Locate Advertisement No. 61/9-2026 for Assistant Professor Anthropology.
- Enter personal, communication, educational, NET/SLET/SET, Ph.D., category and other required information exactly as supported by certificates.

The application must be submitted online through the HPPSC Online Recruitment Application system available from the official Commission website: https://hppsc.hp.gov.in/. Applications sent through post, email, handwritten form or an unofficial website will not be treated as valid online applications.

Selection Process | चयन प्रक्रिया
The recruitment process includes Paper-I, Paper-II and a Personality Test. Paper-I is an objective screening or subject aptitude examination carrying 100 marks and a duration of one hour. The notified composition includes General Knowledge of Himachal Pradesh, General Knowledge of national and international affairs, Hindi language and English language. Objective testing is subject to the negative-marking instructions prescribed by the Commission.
Paper-II is a descriptive Subject Aptitude Test in Anthropology carrying 120 marks and a duration of three hours. The detailed subject syllabus is to be followed as issued by HPPSC. Candidates shortlisted according to the Commission’s rules will appear for the Personality Test, which carries 30 marks. Final ranking will be prepared under the notified evaluation scheme, subject to eligibility and verification of original documents.

How to Prepare | तैयारी कैसे करें
Preparation should be divided between the general screening paper and the descriptive Anthropology paper. For Paper-I, create separate revision sheets for Himachal Pradesh history, geography, culture, administration, economy and current developments. Revise national and international events from reliable sources, and practise Hindi and English grammar, comprehension and usage. Because the objective paper may carry negative marking, candidates should improve accuracy through timed practice.
For Paper-II, study the official Anthropology syllabus topic by topic. Revise physical and biological anthropology, social-cultural anthropology, archaeological anthropology, research methodology, anthropological theories, Indian society, tribal studies and applied anthropology according to the notified syllabus. Prepare concise definitions, scholar-theory connections, diagrams, case studies and Indian examples. Practise writing structured answers with an introduction, conceptual explanation, relevant examples and a short conclusion.
तैयारी के लिए weekly plan बनाएं। Paper-I के लिए Himachal GK, current affairs, Hindi और English को daily short sessions में पढ़ें। Paper-II के लिए प्रत्येक topic के concise notes, thinkers और theories की comparison table तथा Indian anthropology के case studies तैयार करें। तीन घंटे में descriptive paper पूरा करने के लिए नियमित answer-writing करें।
Personality Test के लिए अपना academic subject, dissertation or research work, teaching approach, Himachal Pradesh की सामाजिक-सांस्कृतिक विशेषताएं और higher education से जुड़े मुद्दे revise करें। उत्तर स्पष्ट और तथ्य आधारित रखें। केवल interview preparation के कारण written examination की तैयारी कम न करें, क्योंकि subject aptitude performance final merit में महत्वपूर्ण है।
